Are Grade 12 students eligible?

The student body consists of 95% of Grade 10 and 11 students. The program accepts Grade 12 students but first, we would like to give you more context. Our experience in the past shows that by the time MED YSP program starts in the summer, many Grade 12 students would have accepted their university/college offers. We noticed that most students, but not all, were not as engaged in the program. However, if you are a motivated student that wants to plan ahead, MED YSP will help you prepare for first-year university classes and give you the lab experience skills and experience to succeed!

When is the application deadline?

There is no official deadline for applications to the YSP. The programs, however, are available to a limited numbers of students. Therefore, we strongly encourage that you register as soon as possible.

Is there a waitlist available?

Yes. Waitlists are available as spots may open up due to cancellations. The waitlists are carried out on a first-come, first-served basis. We will email the parent/guardians of the first person on the waiting list if space becomes available. If you end up gaining a spot in the program, you will be required to pay the program fee to maintain your spot.

We sometimes get last-minute cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances. As a result, spaces can open up even as late as a few days before a module starts.

What are the admissions criteria?

Students applying to the University of Toronto’s Med YSP must have completed grade 10 or 11 by July 1st, 2020. Students who are currently in grades 9 are not eligible for Med YSP. Students in Grade 12 can attend but will need to speak with a MED YSP program staff before registering. Admission is on a first-come-first-served basis.

How does the admissions process work?

Registration is run on a first-come-first-served basis. Once you have registered for the program and paid the fees, you will receive an email confirming that we have received it. This email should come to you within a couple of days of receiving the application. The confirmation email will contain more information about supplemental forms and documents which need to be completed as well as an Information Package for Students, Parents, and Guardians. You must complete your supplemental package by the deadline listed in your registration email. If the program is currently full, you can always sign up for the mailing list.
